An exceptional dedication to volunteerism and the environment has netted Langley’s Maddie Millsip a 2012 Envision Financial Education Award.

Millsip, who graduated from Langley Secondary in June, attends Simon Fraser University, where she is studying at the Beedie School of Business.

She was one of 16 recipients of the $2,000 scholarships. They are awarded to Envision members who have demonstrated outstanding scholastic ability combined with exceptional community volunteer service.

Millsip has spent her summers working with the Nicomekl Enhancement Society as well as founding the Youthatch, which encourages youth involvement in the salmon hatchery.

“We are pleased to recognize the hard work and dedication that Madeline has shown to both her education and her community,” said Shelley Besse, president of Envision Financial.

“She is a shining example of an up-and-coming community leader.”

Millsip wrestled for the Langley United Wrestling Club and now competes for the SFU Clan varsity wrestling squad.

She was a 2012 nominee for the Township of Langley's Pete Swensson outstanding community youth award.
