Celebrate International Astronomy Day all day and night at this weekend's Urban Star Quest at Aldergrove Lake Regional Park.

Offered by Metro Vancouver Parks in partnership with the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (Vancouver Centre) there are family-oriented events planned from noon on Saturday, May 7 to 9 a.m. the next morning.

Daytime activities run from noon to 6 p,m., Saturday, rain or shine. The astronomical fun includes solar viewing, crafts, telescope trivia and stellar talks by local experts.

The evening activities run from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m., weather permitting. The guests will explore the universe with RASC amateur astronomers and some amazing telescopes. Guests will learn about spring constellations on a guided night walk, as well as listen to celestial tales around a crackling campfire.

To take part in the open air all-night event, participants must arrive before 11 p.m. Wear warm clothing and footwear suitable to the weather. Bring a flashlight, tent, blankets and snacks if you plan on staying all night. Evening activities are weather dependent, as a complete cloud cover will result in cancellation on event day.

Meet at the Aldergrove Bowl entrance on Lefeuvre Road on the Abbotsford side of the park.

The fee is $2 per person, registration is not required, and all ages may participate.
