New season for Downtown Langley ambassadors program

Langleyambassadorswebversion.jpg

The Downtown Langley ambassadors program begins this week, and a new initiative will keep them busy this year, the seventh season.

The popular program kicked off last week, when ambassadors and dignitaries gathered at the temporary location of Timms Community Centre (the old Langley Legion on Eastleigh Crescent).

The group was entertained by The Lounge Brothers, a local retro band, followed by a short program and a meet and greet.

Following the kick off the 32 volunteer ambassadors will begin their patrols of the Langley City Business Improvement Area.  This year, while the focus will be on downtown businesses, the ambassadors will be reaching out to the large senior population located in the Langley downtown’s back yard.

The ambassadors like their community and they are eager to get started. In addition to being friendly faces in the community, the ambassadors also spot and report graffiti, take down unauthorized signage and ensure that the city looks neat, clean and welcoming to both tourists and locals.

This is the only all-volunteer program in B.C., and its success was recognized with a British Columbia Best in the West award in 2007.

For more information about this community program, call co-ordinator Lilianne Fuller at 604-539-0133.
