Plus One helps dogs in need

Pet food store owner Sara Harvey is reaching out to help the little guys in need, one paw at a time.

By partnering with Vernon pet food and treat company Darford International, she and her clients at Harvey’s Pet Foods are helping to feed dogs in need across the country with every purchase of food and treats made.

The campaign is called the Plus One Movement, and its concept is very simple: When you buy one bag of Darford dog food or treats, a second is donated to the dog rescue centre of your choice. All you have to do is visit the Darford website, punch in the code on the back of the dog food bag and select which shelter you would like to donate to.

“We do lots of events with lots of organizations to help them out,” Harvey said. “We like to be able to get involved in our community.”

Since the movement began, Darford has provided nearly 460,000 meals to rescue dogs across North America. It currently assists 18 animal rescues across North America and the list is growing. This is giving many rescue dogs a second chance to live .

Joining the Plus One Movement is just one of many initiatives Harvey has become involved with to help pets in need. Through a partnership with LAPS, she has created a cat adoption program in her store that has seen over 200 cats adopted to loving families.

She also supports the Dhana Metta Rescue Society in Surrey, which received donations of dog towels and blankets during a Plus One Movement Event held on April 21. Donors received free bags of Darford food.
