Bands back theatre's attempts to go digital
A fundraiser Friday at the Clova Theatre in Cloverdale has a different twist — it is designed to help the theatre remain operating, by purchasing a digital projection system.
The Clova, which has been operating since 1947, uses 35 mm film projectors, but 35 mm film is being phased out by major movie studios within the year, to be replaced by digital projection.
The Clova is putting together a family-friendly, all-ages gig Friday evening, featuring bands, solo artists and a silent auction.
They’re calling it the Road to Digital.
“We are planning a very entertaining night for you,” owner Craig Burghardt promises.
Headliners are indie band The Oh Wells, cover band Garth and the Guys, and solo artists Madeline Merlo and Vanessa Bonita Dolezal.
The Clova is a popular destination for many Langley and Surrey movie lovers, with low ticket prices, $2.50 popcorn for those who bring their own containers and the feel of an old-time theatre.
It is frequently used by community groups for fundraisers.
Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door, and can be picked up at the theatre, 5732 176 Street, or reserved by calling 778-246-0180. The event begins at 6 p.m.
