Kwantlen memorial decries violence

It's been 18 years since a deranged gunman stalked the halls of Montreal's École Polytechnique, killing 14 women and wounding another 10 women and four men.

It became known as the Montreal Massacre.

The gunman, Marc Lepine killed himself, leaving behind a suicide note that claimed he was fighting feminism.

Memorials to honour the tragic anniversary were held across the country on Thursday.

In Surrey, a small group of Kwantlen University College students lit candles for the victims at ceremony at Kwantlen's Cloverdale campus.
