‘Her Brothers’ help fire victims

Aldergrove music trio send proceeds of concert to aid northern B.C. fire victims

A trio of brothers from Aldergrove known as the Her Brothers band found a way to turn a free concert into a fundraiser.

The trio performed a free concert and then gave all the proceeds from their merchandise sales at the concert to the Red Cross for northern B.C. wildfire relief.

The band members, who are real-life brothers, are one of the area’s most popular musical acts. The Penner family’s brothers, Gabe, Levi and Josh, have been entertaining crowds across the province with their upbeat rock songs for several years.

On July 20, Her Brothers performed at the new Langley Events Centre Amphitheatre to an enthusiastic crowd of 250. The concert was one of a dozen weekly outdoor concerts being held on Thursday evenings throughout the summer at the new amphitheatre.

Sponsored by the Township of Langley, Envision Financial and Long and McQuade Music, the free concert series is the brainchild of Peter Luongo, founder of the Langley Ukelele Ensemble. Luongo, also one of the founders of the Langley Has Talent competition, first met the band Her Brothers when they auditioned for the 2015 contest. In April 2015, Her Brothers were the only band to ever win the first place title of Langley has Talent.

Luongo saw the concerts in the amphitheatre as an opportunity to bring people together in the community and showcase some incredible local talent. Although the concert series is a free community event, the band was inspired to donate all CD and T-shirt sales to the Northern B.C. fire relief effort, and encouraged fans at the event to donate as well.

With the help of a generous audience they raised $600 for the Red Cross that day.
