Art for Artists’ Sake
Oct. 25 is International Artists Day. The date, selected in honour of Pablo Picasso’s birthday offers the chance to salute artists, worldwide, to honour and recognize the contributions they’ve made to civilization.
Starting Friday, Oct. 26, Artful Things will host Celebrate Picasso, a three-day event which begins with an artists’ reception on Oct. 26 from 7-10 p.m., followed by a two-day exhibit.
Fourteen artists will participate in the event which will include an interactive Picasso project, live auction, silent auction, door prizes and wine tasting. The event will be held at the Alliance Building, 5712 192 St.

The Cariboo-Chilcotin region of B.C. is the subject of Canadian photographer Chris Harris. He will be a guest of the Langley Camera Club, when he speaks at Fort Langley Community Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m.
His book, Spirit in the Grass, The Cariboo Chilcotin’s Forgotten Landscape, is the 10th in his Discover British Columbia Books series. It is 224 pages long with 215 images and 60 pages of text. Harris will give a multimedia presentation with slides accompanied by the stories behind the images and how they were created. The Fort Langley Hall is located at 9167 Glover Rd.
Midweek Music
Kwantlen University College’s Music at Midweek continues each Wednesday during the noon hour on the Langley campus. On Oct 24, the Music of Barbara Pentland will be featured during a lecture-recital by Jane Hayes. On Oct 31, the Kwantlen Brass Ensemble will perform under the direction of Wayne Jeffrey.
All concerts take place in the KUC Langley auditorium, 20901 Langley Bypass, beginning at noon. Admission is free.
Marriage Proposal
Langley Players’ first production of the season is the romantic comedy Maggie’s Getting Married,
Join the Duncan family as they prepare for the wedding of their daughter. It is the night before the big day, and Maggie’s older sister discovers that she knows the groom a little better than Maggie would like her to. This production has adult content.

Curtain time is 8 p.m., Thursday through Saturday.Sunday matinees begin at 2 p.m. It is recommended that audiences arrive 30 minutes before show time. Tickets are $15.
