Langley Community Music School presents an afternoon with Beethoven as part of their Concerts Café Classico series on Sunday, Feb. 27, at 3 p.m. in the Rose Gellert Hall.

LCMS ensemble in residence, the Pacific Rim String Quartet, will perform Beethoven’s string quartet No. 6 Op. 18, No. 3 Op. 59 and Op. 95.

“Without a doubt, one of the greatest composers of the string quartet genre was Beethoven,” said artistic director Elizabeth Bergmann.

“He wrote 16 masterworks in total, each of them exemplary of the breadth and span of his musical style.”

Pre-concert coffee and commentary by Bergmann begins at 3 p.m., followed by the concert at 4 p.m.

“The Pacific Rim String Quartet will play three quartets from two of his compositional periods.

The audience will hear the classical form and structure combined with passion and romanticism.”

The PRSQ was formed in September, 2007 by four of Vancouver’s top string players.

The name was chosen to reflect both the geography of Vancouver and the membership of the group — two of the players are originally from Taiwan, while the other two are from Western Canada.

The PRSQ has established itself in Vancouver through its own concert series at Pacific Theatre and in performances around the Lower Mainland.

Members of the PRSQ have performed throughout Canada, the US, Europe and Taiwan.

Tickets are available at the Langley Community Music Sch0ool box office at 604-534-2848 for $15 adults, $13 seniors, and $10 students.

The Rose Gellert Hall is located at 4899 207 St.
