Free outdoor movie night for BBBS Langley returns
It’s nearly time, once again, to kick back and enjoy a movie under the stars.
It’s summer in the Fraser Valley and that means it’s time for the return of a tradition that started five years ago — free outdoor movie nights.
It all begins in Langley on July 13 with a screening of popular family-friendly film at Willoughby Park at the Langley Events Centre.
And, as past years, while admission to the movie is free, donations will be accepted on behalf of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Langley.
“We are very excited to start the Prospera Cinema Under the Stars festival in a great venue in Langley, where the whole family can enjoy a free movie night,” said Jason Bashnick, FreshAirCinema festival organizer.
“For the past few years, we have seen well over 2,000 people per night attending these events — people simply love the experience of watching a movie outside.”
FreshAirCinema is family owned and based in B.C.
It works alongside Cinema4Change, a not-for-profit organization whose mandate is to use the power of film to strengthen communities and improve lives.
“We believe our event provides them with a great way to raise awareness and important funds to continue the work they do.”
The Prospera Cinema Under the Stars is the first of eight shows scheduled for the summer in communities across the Fraser Valley.
In Langley the event will begin pre-movie event activities starting at around 6 p.m. and the film begins at dusk on a four storey high inflatable screen.
Although, by contract it cannot be named, the movie presented will be a recently released animated Dr. Seuss story, featuring an orange creature that speaks on behalf of the Truffula trees.
“Building on previous year’s success, we are very happy to have partnered with Prospera to present this series for the fourth year in a row,” said Bashnick.
“We see such a social atmosphere before the event where friends and family just relax and enjoy each other’s company. At dusk everyone settles in and has a fantastic experience watching a movie outdoors — you can’t beat that.”
