Nine Strong test apprentice skills, plan charity fundraiser

March 30 Townhall pub night to support Breakfast Club of Canada and Shape Your World Society

Nine strong Langley women are helping to support their community through Breakfast Club of Canada and Shape Your World Society in an upcoming fundraiser.

Erin Schwaiger, Charlene DelMaestro, Carmen Phelan, Teresa Randle, Mary-Barbara Stigum, Faith Turnbull, Lizette Etsebeth, Danielle Weber and Daineca Olson — also known by their group name Nine Strong — are hosting a pub night at Townhall Public House on March 30 to raise money for the two charities.

The fundraiser is part of Shape Your World Society’s Total Makeover Challenge (TMC). The 15 women left in the contest have been divided into three groups, and are now tasked with planning a fundraising event in just four weeks.

“Of course we’d love to raise the most money, but we also plan on attending our fellow challengers’ events to show our support — it is the charities that win in the end, after all,” said Schwaiger.

The pub night takes place from 6 to 10 p.m. at Townhall, located at 19640 64 Ave.

Tickets are $20 and include a burger and fries, a beverage and a chance to win door prizes. There will also be a silent auction, entertainment and other prizes.

“The TMC and this fundraiser have had a significant impact on our lives — the changes we are seeing in ourselves and each other are more than we could have hoped for and that is a direct reflection of the work and determination being put in by these fabulous women.” Schwaiger said.

To purchase ticket, call 604-727-9723.
