Longtime Vancouver anchor Deb Hope stepping down from Global BC screen

Longtime broadcaster Deb Hope is stepping away from the anchor's chair, Global announced on Thursday.

Hope has been with her current station since 1981, joining it when it was known as BCTV. Hope now anchors Global BC's Noon News and Early News, and has been a reporter, producer and (now) local institution of an anchor.

"I've loved my job over three decades, working with so many amazing colleagues at Global," Hope said in a story release by GlobalNews.ca today. "It has been my pleasure to meet so many British Columbians when I've been out in the field. I want to give a special thanks to our viewers for tuning in."

Hope is originally from Trail, B.C. and is a graduate of the University of British Columbia. She received her degree in journalism from Ottawa's Carleton University and its heralded j-school.

Before working at BCTV/Global, Hope began her career with the Canadian Press and United Press Canada.

"For more than three decades, Hope has demonstrated a tireless commitment to delivering the news to our community," said Kenton Boston, vice-president of Global BC, in the same press release. "She is considered an icon in B.C. and we salute her for her years of dedicated service. We wish Deb continued success in all her future endeavours. We will always consider her part of our Global family."
