Cyclists pedal for 24 hours
It promises to be a test of endurance for eight cyclists who plan on riding stationary bikes non-stop for 24 hours.
Beginning at noon on Saturday (March 31) and continuing until noon the next day, the eight local volunteers will pedal for a good cause in the 24 Hour Spin 4 Special Olympics British Columbia.
They will do so outside of Wendel’s Bookstore and Cafe (103 9233 Glover Road) in Fort Langley.
The riders are allowed a five-minute break per hour — or they can bank that time and take a longer break later.
Altogether, it is estimated they will cycle a combined 4,800 kilometres, burning 460,800 calories with 1,036,800 revolutions.
The cyclists will be collecting donations.
There will also be one bike set up for spectators, who can cycle for five minutes by making a $5 donation.
Township Mayor Jack Froese and Matthew Williams, a Langley athlete and Special Olympics International global messenger, will be there on Saturday at 1 p.m.
