Outdoor pool opens next week with free public swim
So far, the forecast for Thursday, May 10, looks promising — calling for sunshine and 17 degrees.
And that's good news for swimmers who like to get their splash on in the great outdoors.
Al Anderson Memorial Pool will open for the 2012 season next week and they'll kick it all off with a free public swim from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Situated in City Park, the eight-lane, 25 metre pool, which opened in 1962, is surrounded by nature, sports fields, a water park, and picnic shelters.
It is the perfect local destination on a hot summer day, offering swimming lessons, length swimming and aquatic fitness classes.
Thursday's free swim is part of the City's Move For Health Day initiative on May 10, which will also include free weight room (all day) and fitness class (5:45 p.m.) drop-in at Timms Community Centre. The City's recreation department is offering the free activities to help encourage residents to get moving and keep moving.
There will be several family-friendly swims held at the pool this year, including a Loonie Swim every Sunday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Financial assistance for swimming lessons and passes is available for City of Langley residents who meet subsidy requirements. Leisure Access Grant forms are available at any City of Langley recreation facility. For more information, contact 604-514-2860.
