Province funds bicycle trail to Golden Ears Bridge
The provincial government has announced $100,000 in funding toward construction of a 5.8 km bikeway that will run from 208 Street to Golden Ears Bridge in Langley Township.
The money will be used to widen the shoulders of Allard Crescent on both sides of the road to accommodate cyclists.
“Langley has an active and thriving cycling community," said Mary Polak, MLA for Langley and Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure.
"This funding will help increase the amount of trails and routes they can utilize."
The Jan. 30 press release announcing the funding said Langley is among 20 communities that will share more than $7.36 million in BikeBC funding.
The money will pay for 21 projects to expand and build cycling lanes, trails, and paths, with the aim of increasing physical activity and helping reduce greenhouse gases.
Since 2001, the B.C. government estimates it has spent over $148 million to create over 200 kms of new bicycle lanes and trails in more than 75 communities.
