Langley interchanges scenes of many crashes
Two Highway 1 interchanges in Langley cracked ICBC’s top 10 worst crash sites in the Lower Mainland.
In fifth spot in the top 10 is the 264 Street on-ramp and 56 Avenue on-ramp, at 264 Street. ICBC recorded 220 crashes there last year.
In seventh spot is the 232 Street interchange, which recorded 190 crashes in 2013.
The number one crash site in Metro Vancouver was the Willingdon exit and turning lane off of Highway 1, with 350 crashes last year. That is almost one crash for every day of the year.
According to ICBC, the number of fatal crashes at intersections increased in 2012 from 2011. In 2012, 77 people died in crashes in B.C., compared to 66 in 2011.
No information on the number of fatal crashes was available for 2013.
There has been a marked decline in the number of drunk driving fatal crashes. In the Lower Mainland, there were 40 deaths in 2010 and only 12 in 2012.
