Carey Poitras runs in Township
Carey Poitras of Aldergrove is putting her name forward for a seat on Langley Township council.
Poitras ran for the Green Party of Canada in the recent federal election and is involved with several community-based organizations, including recently serving as a 4-H leader in Aldergrove.
"I have been a resident of Langley for 25 years, and currently live in Aldergrove. I am raising two young boys with my partner Mike. I want to make a positive contribution to the community that I have grown up in and chose to raise my sons in. I believe you need to be the change you want to see and I would like to see an end to the dissension that has hampered council in recent years.
"The current council has kept in mind sustainability in community plans; transit-orientated development, and has tried to lead the way to fight pollution through innovations. Idea sharing has been affected by the negative state of the current council.
"Council needs to address water, policing, and bringing business to Langley. We need to look at long-term transit solutions; addressing bus routes as an answer for today. Langley needs independent thinking among its councillors. They need to want to work together positively to achieve these goals for Langley. It’s about respect and vision."
Poitras says it is her aim to make a positive contribution to the community and help end the dissension and negative rhetoric which has hampered council.
