The family, said to be from Langley, were travelling in a van that collided with a truck on Highway 16 Saturday night.

A mother and her 10-year-old daughter, reported to be from Langley, were killed in a head-on crash near Jasper on Saturday night.

On March 11, at approximately 10:45 p.m. while on patrol, Jasper RCMP came across a two vehicle collision on Highway 16.

The head-on collision was between a van and a pick up truck.

According to Jasper RCMP, two occupants of the van were deceased at the scene —  a 33 year old women and her 10 year old daughter.  The mother’s eight-year-old boy was also in the van but not injured. The 56-year-old grandmother in the van suffered minor and non-life threatening injuries, said police.

Media reports indicate the family in the van are from Langley, however police would not confirm that.

The driver of the truck, a 51 year old man from Calgary was taken to hospital in serious condition. He remains in hospital.

Highway 16 was closed all night and into the morning while RCMP investigated with the assistance of an RCMP collision analyst.  All possible contributing factors related to this collision are being considered, said police. But at this time, the cause of the crash isn’t known.
