RCMP investigating online threat against Langley Township Councillor

Michelle Sparrow sees ‘see you at the car show’ as a direct threat

Michelle Sparrow isn’t taking a threat made against her on social media lightly.

And now the RCMP is involved after the Langley Township Councillor received an ominous message via Facebook

On her personal Facebook page, Sparrow wrote on Sept. 6 that she “received a personal threat today from a coward behind a keyboard, threatening me to vote a certain way on the upcoming Brookswood OCP, then ending it with ‘see you at the car show.’ I am taking it seriously and the RCMP will be looking into it. Is this really what our community has come to? People resorting to threatening people, in hopes of getting what they want?”

Sparrow, along with councillors Petrina Arnason, Charlie Fox, Kim Richter, and Angie Quaale voted against the Brookswood-Fernridge Community Plan in July.

The plan failed third reading in a 5-4 vote.

Sparrow said she could not support the plan without first taking it back to the public, as amended, for comment.

Langley RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Holly Largy confirmed that an RCMP file has been generated regarding the threat.

“I don’t believe that there has been a lot of investigation conducted at this point because we haven’t spoken to her (Sparrow) directly,” Largy said Friday morning.

The Times is attempting to contact Sparrow for comment.
