Bad Manners

Editor: On Tuesday, I attended the school board meeting concerning the reconfiguration of schools in my children’s catchment school area.

I was impressed with the H.D. Stafford students who attended, made presentations and listened passionately to their school trustees who were in process of receiving recommendations and making decisions on their school.

At the beginning of the meeting, 20 minutes were taken as the trustees hashed out “the importance and respectfulness of ending the meeting at 11 p.m.”

Items on the agenda were tabled to the next meeting, so that a 15-minute question and answer period could be allocated for the public.

I was horrified and shocked at board chair Steve Steve Burton’s manner — how he addressed our students during the short question and answer period at 11:05 p.m.

I understand the meeting was long and contained heated discussions; however, as a mum of three, coach, PAC executive representative and district employee, I was disgusted with the manner in which he spoke to these students.

On that note alone, the meeting left a bad taste in my mouth.

Kim Trickett,

Langley
