This is a democracy?
Editor: Canada’s a democracy? We vote for our Members of Parliament (note I did not say “representatives”), similarly to the American House.
However, when an American representative disagrees with the party, he’s unpopular. When a Canadian representative disagrees with the party, he’s unemployed.
The only way to guarantee you get to vote for our nation’s leader is by joining every federal party. We have senators — who are appointed by the leader we don’t vote for.
We have a governor-general, the last checkpoint for integrity before a law is created. This person is appointed by the leader we don’t vote for.
The true north — strong and free?
