TransLink working to improve service to Aldergrove and Langley
Editor: Re: On Aug. 13 , your paper published a letter from Marnie Friesen which claimed that, “Bus route changes would impact residents of Aldergrove.”
I would like to reassure Marnie Friesen and your readers that the potential upcoming changes to transit service on Fraser Highway will not negatively affect the residents of Aldergrove and Langley. Rather, the new proposed changes will better service the needs of the these municipalities.
The statement that TransLink is terminating the 502 at Langley Centre and operating another bus from Langley Centre to Aldergrove is incorrect.
TransLink proposes to operate the 502 bus from Surrey Central to Langley and, in addition, introduce a new commuter oriented service called the 503 Surrey Central/Aldergrove. The new 503 will operate as an express service between Surrey Central and Langley Centre, continuing as a local stop service east of Langley connecting to Aldergrove.
This is expected to reduce travel times, overcrowding and pass-ups for Aldergrove customers travelling to and from Surrey Central. Furthermore, the new line should help to reduce some overcrowding and pass-ups for local 502 customers. Details of the proposed change, including a map, are available at translink.ca/serviceop.
These proposed changes are anticipated to take place early to mid 2014.
