Gold, world record for Roman and Canadian rowing team
Lisa Roman helped Canada make some history.
For the first time ever, Canada won the gold medal at the U23 world rowing championships, setting a new world record in the process.
Canada won the women’s eight race in 6:03.23, nearly three seconds ahead of New Zealand.
The championships were held in Amsterdam, Netherlands last week (July 20-24).
The race was close at the midway point, before Canada showed their endurance and pulled away from New Zealand.
Roman, a 21-year-old from Langley, rows for the Washington State Cougars.
