The Trinity Western Spartans dropped both ends of a home-and-home series with the Thompson Rivers WolfPack.

The WolfPack won 5-3 on Friday night in Kamloops and then took the return engagement 5-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Langley Events Centre in B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League action.

Thompson Rivers scored three power play goals in each game.

"We've had the same game every week so far it seems," said Spartans coach Dwayne Lowdermilk.

"It's about discipline and direction as to where we want to be.

"Each guy has to learn to play with each other; it's a full team game, it's not about 'me.'"

"We started taking penalties that were about 'me.'"

Saturday's game began well enough for Trinity Western as they controlled play in the opening period. But a power-play goal from the WolfPack's Jassi Sangha gave the visitors a 1-0 lead.

In the second, Thompson Rivers added three more goals to take full control.

“If we move the puck well like we did in the first period, we can make things happen. We had 14 shots to their six but then all of the sudden, TRU turned it around," Lowdermilk said.

"That’s what we need to learn how to do. Instead of keeping on sliding, we need to be able to turn it around and get that traction back.”

Brandon Long had the lone goal for the home team, scoring early in the third.

The WolfPack were 3-for-8 on the power play while Trinity Western was 0-for-5.

Sangha led the winners with two goals.

In Friday's game, Trevor Beaupre scored a hat trick for the Spartans but that was not enough in a 5-3 setback.

"It just took us too long to get into the game," Lowdermilk said.

“There were three things that I asked the guys to do today: shoot, shoot, shoot, stay out of the box and take away the middle of the ice. It just took us to the middle of the second period for things to finally click. If we had the first period back we would have had them.”
