Atom Eagles soar to gold
The Langley Atom A1 Eagles soared to the gold medal at the North Shore Winter Club.
The hockey team defeated the hosts 3-1 in the gold medal game on Nov. 13.
Strong goaltending was key to the team’s success as the tandem of Tyler Verbeek and Boston Bilous allowed just seven goals in the five games.
The opener was a defensive struggle, with Langley prevailing 3-2.
The defensive corps of Stephen Sielsky, Jaydon Atkins, Sean Bertram, Alex Cotton, Carter Smith and Matthew Tyszka combined to limit Richmond’s opportunities.
The line of Brad Fortin, Calvin McLeod and Carson Preston combined for two of the three goals.
Game two saw the offence take over as they erupted for 10 goals in a 10-2 win over North Delta. Justin Ralph, Kurtis Trowell and Brendan O’Grady combined for five of the goals.
And in the round robin finale, Justin Williams, Carter Anderson and Hollse Thompson dominated the offence to score all Langley’s goals in a 5-2 win over Cloverdale.
The Eagles then knocked off Coquitlam 4-1 in the semifinals.
