Blaze need extra innings, but clip Cardinals
A two-out extra innings single sent the Langley Blaze to their third straight victory.
Tanner Shaer delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the eighth inning, scoring Jordan Atkinson from second base as the Blaze beat the Abbotsford Cardinals 4-3 on Tuesday at McLeod Park in B.C. Premier Baseball League action.
The teams has been tied at 3 for much of the game as both U18 squads scored their runs in the first two innings.
Bill Germaine had an RBI double in the first inning for Langley while Bobby St. Pierre scored Nick Rutckjy on a fielder's choice and then Mitchell Robinson scored on an RBI single from Aaron Horanski.
Germaine is tied for the league lead with 10 RBIs.
Cortez Chappell earned the win, taking over on the mound after the second inning, and striking out eight over his six innings of work.
The Blaze improved to 10-4 and they sit one game out of first place in the U18 league.
The Cardinals fell to 4-6.
Langley is off to Victoria for a doubleheader on Saturday against the Eagles (8-4) and then they host the Vancouver Cannons (4-10) on Sunday at McLeod Park. First game is at noon with the back-end of the doubleheader at 2:30 p.m.
