Gators thump Talons, Seahawks
Just one match stands in the way of the Walnut Grove Gators and a Fraser Valley championship banner.
The Gators continued their dominant season, winning both their quarter-final and semifinal matches last week to advance to the Fraser Valley tier 2 senior boys rugby championship match.
Walnut Grove pounded the Gleneagle Talons 40-5 on May 8 and then followed that up with a shutout performance on May 10, 21-0 against the Seaquam Seahawks.
The two victories earned the Gators a spot in the Fraser Valley final, where they will face the Port Moody Blues. The game kicks off at 2:15 p.m. on Thursday (May 17) at Abbotsford’s Yale Secondary.
Both teams finished their regular seasons unbeaten, with Walnut Groe winning the Eastern Division and Port Moody topping the Northern Division.
The Gators steamrolled their competition, winning their league games by an average score of 34.8-6.4.
Seaquam had won the Western Division while Gleneagle was second in their division behind Port Moody.
