Spartans split with 10th-ranked Vikes
The Trinity Western Spartans men's basketball team travelled to Victoria and earned a split with the 10th-ranked Vikes.
The Spartans used a strong fourth quarter last Friday to pull away, turning a two-point game into a 71-61 victory.
But the team could not duplicate that feat, losing to Victoria the next night 77-63 to fall to 2-4 on the season. This time it was the Vikes pulling away in the fourth quarter with a 29-18 advantage over the final 10 minutes.
"We were a little bit gassed towards the end," said Spartans coach Scott Allen.
"They hit some big shots on us and we just didn’t respond offensively. Overall though, it’s a great weekend split. Playing in Victoria is always a tough task and I’m proud of the way the guys battled."
Mark Perrin led the Spartans with 24 points while Denny McDonald had 14.
In the victory, Perrin was also the leading scorer with 27 points.
The Spartans host Winnipeg on Nov. 23 and Manitoba on Nov. 24. Both games are at the Langley Events Centre.
