Playing in honour of Jordan
More than 500 young hockey players hit the ice at the Walnut Grove Sportsplex for the Jordan Owens Memorial Spring Initiation Hockey Tournament.
Forty teams of five to eight-year-old hockey players took part in the five-day tournament which celebrates the memory of Jordan Owens.
Owens passed away in 1999 at the age of eight after a battle with cancer.
The Langley Minor Hockey Association hosts the tournament every March and raises money in honour of Owens, for the B.C. Children’s Hospital.
This was the 13th year of the tournament, and last year’s event raised $21,162.81.
Altogether, more than $107,000 has now been raised in the tournament’s 12 years.
This year’s goal was to raise another $20,000.
The action began Friday and wrapped up Tuesday.
A final tally of how much was raised at this year’s tournament is still being calculated.
