The Langley United Wrestling Club has qualified five people for the upcoming B.C. provincial championships.

The wrestlers were competing at the Fraser Valley championships on Feb. 14 at Burnaby’s St. Thomas More Collegiate with four of the eight reaching the podium.

Langley Secondary’s Emily McLean took top spot in the 90+ kg girls division. The Grade 12 student won silver last year at provincials.

Another LSS wrestler, Grade 9 student Caitlin Bartokovic was third in the girls 57-kg category.

D.W. Poppy’s Pritpaul Johal, a Grade 8 wrestler, came third in the men’s 45-kg weight class. He is the first ever Langley United wrestler to qualify for provincials as a Grade 8.

Brookswood’s Trevor Weltzin took second in the men’s 66-kg division. He became just the second male wrestler to win silver at Fraser Valleys in the short history of the club.

And Kamil Golowko (LSS0 was fourth in the men’s 130-kg weight class and will also wrestle at provincials.

The club consists of wrestlers in Grades 6 to 12 from the Langley schools.
