After leading his team to the BCHL’s top regular season record, Langley Rivermen head coach Bobby Henderson has won the league’s coach of the year award.

It was announced on Tuesday (March 4) as the league unveiled their year-end trophy winners.

Henderson wins the Joe Tennant Memorial Trophy after guiding the Rivermen to a league-best 37-13-3-5 record.

They are the first local team to win the Ron Boileau Memorial Trophy in the 32-year history of junior A hockey in Langley.

And while Henderson took the coaching award, a Langley player — who is a member of the Surrey Eagles — was a double winner.

Danton Heinen, the Eagles leading scorer, won both the BCHL’s Bruce Allison Memorial Trophy Award as top rookie and the Bob Fenton Trophy as the most sportsmanlike player.

Heinen, a Langley Minor Hockey Association alumni, had 29 goals and 62 points to lead all BCHL rookies and finish 10th in league scoring.
