Skyhawks, ’Cats win openers

The Stafford Skyhawks have begun their rugby season in a dominating fashion as they won the Grade 8 boys title at the Langley 7s district tournament.

It was held at R.E. Mountain Secondary on March 7.

Meeka Gay picked up most valuable player honours.

The Skyhawks then switched their focus back to 15-a-side rugby, winning an exhibition game over the Mountain Eagles 48-17 and then prevailing in their regular season opener, Abbotsford’s Chief Dan George.

The Brookswood Bobcats senior girls rugby team scored a 20-5 victory over Elgin Park on March 12 on the ’Cats home field.

The Bobcats defence was smothering, not allowing the visitors out of their half for the first 20 minutes.

Nicole Taleon was especially impressive both with her tackling and some outstanding runs with the ball.

Elise Cluney scored two tries, while Natalie Nguyen and Nadia Anthea had a try apeice for Brookswood in the victory.
