Kodiaks battle to even Finals 3-3 with Sockeyes

The stage is set for the seventh game clincher between Aldergrove Kodiaks and Richmond Sockeyes in the Pacific Junior Hockey League's 2014 Championship.

Aldergrove and Richmond played one of the best games of the season Saturday night at Aldergrove Arena, and Aldergrove took a well-deserved 3-2 win in overtime on a shot from Scott McHaffie with Kodi Schwarz.

This even the series 3-3, following two consecutive Aldergrove wins. Game 7 is on Monday, March 31 at Richmond arena.

Aldergrove outshot Richmond 44-29 and their keeper Kootenay Alder did outstanding work in deflecting 41 of those shots to earn game third star. McHaffie and Kodiaks keeper Jordan Liem were first and second stars.

Aldergrove got on the scoreboard first in the first period on a power play by Adam Callegari, assisted by Joshua Cronin.

The Sockeyes evened it up half a minute later and took a 2-1 lead early in the second, with scores by John Wesley (on a power play) and Mac Colasimone.

However, a brilliant short-handed goal by Kodiaks' Jonathan Philley evened the score once again halfway through the second. Assists were from Spencer Unger and Jeremy Lagler.

Third period was scoreless, with Richmond getting 11 shots on goal to Aldergrove's dozen. This set the stage for 10 minutes of five-on-five sudden death overtime, which Aldergrove delivered at 2:56 minutes with McHaffie's goal.
