Magic number down to one for Senior Blaze

It was a wild game which featured more base-on-balls than hits and a combined six errors. But when the dust had settled, Jesse Peters drove in four runs as the Langley Senior Blaze topped the Burnaby Collegiate Bulldogs 11-6.

The Pacific International League baseball game was played at Robert Burnaby Park on July 15.

The Blaze broke open a 2-1 game with three runs in the third inning and another four in the top of the fourth to go ahead 9-1.

Clayton Howell, Bob Foerster and Jacob Yousif had the other Langley RBIs while Gage McLaren picked up the win. He allowed five earned runs over three innings.

The win improved Langley to 3-6 in PIL play.

The Blaze, who are made up of collegiate and university players home for the summer, also play in the Pacific Metro Baseball League. They beat the Coquitlam Angels 7-4 on July 14 at McLeod Park  to improve to 7-1 in the PMBL. The team's magic number is one — they have three games left — to clinch the title.

Shane Kraemer struck out eight for the victory, while Dillon Reynolds fanned two of the four batters he faced in an inning of relief.

Offensively, Mason Cratty led the way with three RBIs while Clayton Howell drove in a pair.
