Riders ready for third annual cycling event
The backroads of the Fraser Valley will be buzzing this Sunday as the third annual Prospera Valley GranFondo takes place.
The mass cycling event — riders chose from three distances: the 50-km PrestoFondo, the 88-km MedioFondo and the 160-km GranFondo — will see cyclists start and finish at the Fort Langley Historic Site.
The longest of the three routes will see riders head south through Langley’s country roads, go down along Zero Avenue, along the Sumas Prairie, up and over Sumas Mountain and then back to Fort Langley along the Matsqui Flats and through Glen Valley along the Fraser River.
The MedioFondo departs from Fort Langley, goes along Zero Avenue and then back through Bradner and along the Fraser River through Glen Valley.
And the PrestoFondo route stays within Langley, with a predominantly flat ride with just enough hills to challenge the riders while the enjoy the scenery.
All of the cyclists depart at 7 a.m. and close to 1,200 riders are expected to take part.
Following the ride, there will be food, music and other festivities at the Fort.
