Thunder close season with victory
The Langley Thunder closed the regular season on a winning note, snapping a six-game losing streak with a 10-8 victory.
The Thunder were hosting the Nanaimo Timbermen in senior A Western Lacrosse Association action at the Langley Events Centre on July 30.
The victory improved Langley to 7-11 on the season, but they will miss the WLA post-season for the first time since 2010.
The Timbermen also failed to qualify for the playoffs.
In the season finale, Langley used a dominant second period where they scored seven goals to break open a 1-1 tie.
The 8-3 lead after 40 minutes came in handy as the Timbermen scored five times in the third, but lost 10-8.
Alex Turner capped off his impressive season with a six-point night, which included a hat trick.
Turner finished third in league scoring with 34 goals, 26 assists and 70 points. All three numbers were career highs for the six-year veteran.
Daniel McQuade and Athan Iannucci each had two goals and an assist while Tyler Melnyk had a goal and three helpers.
Cam Copland and Brendan Mykle-Winkler had a goal and an assist apiece to round out the scoring.
