Harsh loss to Delta Ice Hawks followed by close loss to Richmond Sockeyes

The Aldergrove Kodiaks lost a pair of back-to-back games this week, leaving the team stalled at four wins and five losses — one of the losses in overtime — for nine points after nine games.

The Kodiaks took a 9-2 beating at the hands of the Delta Ice Hawks at Ladner on Tuesday, and redeemed themselves somewhat with a 6-5 loss to the Richmond Sockeyes at home on Wednesday.

Tuesday’s game was a disaster from the start as the Kodiaks were down 3-1 after the first period, thanks to a goal from Ty Pickering, assisted by David Stickney.

The Hawks scored the second period’s only goal, and the Hawks scored five more in the third. The Kodiaks Hayden Vetterl scored in the third, assisted by Kyle Bosko.

The Hawks outshot the Kodiaks 50-28 and scored on two of three power plays while the Kodiaks were empty-handed after thee power plays of their own.

The Kodiaks started out slowly on Wednesday and were down 3-0 at the end of the first period.

However, the Kodiaks picked up their game in the second period, with two unanswered goals from Matt Oliver an Kyle Bosko. Assists came from Bosko and Cole Pisiak, and Oliver and Jake Dowell.

Then in the third period the Sockeyes scored three more to put them back up 6-2.

Again the Kodiaks picked up their game and scored three more in the last five and a half minutes to end the game 6-5 for the Sockeyes.

Scoring for Aldergrove were David Stickney, Kyle Bosko (on a power play) and Ty Pickering, with assists from Jacob De Waal and Arjan Cheema, Nathaniel Irving and Stickney, and De Waal and Stickney.

The Kodiaks pulled their goalie in the dying minute for a flurry of shots but failed to make a tie for overtime.

Bosko was named the game’s third star.

Shotson owl were fairly even at 27-25 for the Sockeyes, and the Kodiaks scored the night’s only power play goal with six chances, while the Sockeyes failed to score on seven chances.

The Kodiaks get to rest until their next home game versus the Grandview Steelers on Oct. 11, 7:15 p.m. puck drop.
