Langley well represented at national track and field championships

Five athletes on senior provincial team while another four on junior team

Five local athletes are competing at the Canadian senior track and field championships while another four are part of the junior championships as part of Team BC.

Both events are being held at Edmonton’s Foote Field from July 7 to 10.

Georgia Ellenwood, Melissa Fraser and Regan Yee — all of the Langley Mustangs Track and Field Club — as well as Django Lovett and Kyle Nielsen are competing at the senior championships.

Lovett, a high jumper, is part of the Valley Royals Track and Field Club while Nielsen, a javelin thrower, is with UBC.

Ellenwood is competing in the high jump and long jump while Fraser is in the javelin throw and Yee in the 3000m steeplechase.

And four other members of the Mustangs — Tanika Dolfo (hammer throw), Dean Ellenwood (400m), Alex Savage (long jump) and Joanna Williams (3000m steeplechase) are representing Team BC at the junior national championships.

Georgia Ellenwood, Yee and Nathan George have also been chosen to represent Canada at the NACAC (North America Central America Caribbean Association) U23 championships in El Salvador July 15 to 17.

Ellenwood will run in the 1500m while Yee is in the 1500m and George is in the 400m.

Ellenwood runs collegiately for the University of Wisconsin while Yee and George are part of the Trinity Western University Spartans program.
