Rolling into China

Foursome of Valley inline hockey players named to Team Canada inline team at World Roller Games

A quartet of Fraser Valley roller hockey talent are set to wear the red and white at the inaugural Federation of International Roller Sports World Roller Games in Nanjing, China later this month.

Abbotsford’s Stefan Virtanen and Langley natives Trent Vilio, Brad Carr and Matthew Garb have all been named to the Canadian inline hockey team for the event, which opens competition on Aug. 29.

The players are part of the over 4,000 athletes competing in the Games, which features 110 events and 50 countries.

All the Valley players either play out of the Langley Hockey House or Central City Arena in Surrey.

Garb has represented Canada before in both IIHF and FIRS sanctioned events, while both Virtanen and Vilio have represented Canada at AAU sanctioned events and both won gold medals. It’ll be Carr’s first time wearing Canadian colours internationally.

The Games run in Nanjing until Sept. 10. For more information on the event, visit www.rollerevents.org/nanjing-2017.
