Second, fourth-place finishes for Langley U11 field lacrosse squads at provincial championships

A pair of Langley field lacrosse squads both made the medal round and one team was able to bring home the silver medals.

Twenty-two teams competed in three divisions at the B.C. Lacrosse Association U11 boys’ field lacrosse provincial invitational championships, held Feb. 18 and 19 at the Coquitlam Town Centre Sports Complex.

New Westminster 2 defeated the Langley Thunder 2 team 8-3 in the gold medal game for the White Division while Coquitlam edged Langley 1 8-6 in the bronze medal match for the Blue Division.

Langley 2 had gone 2-1-1 in their four round-robin games, tying New Westminster 4-4 and losing to Delta 4-2 on the Saturday, before bouncing back to defeat Surrey 10-3 and Ridge Meadows 8-0 on the Sunday to qualify for the gold medal game.

Nathan Clark (Langley 1) and Connyr Welch (Langley 2) were the Thunder recipients of the Warrior Fair Play Awards.

Carson Smith, Welch, Jos Chois, Atley Bjorklund and Hayden Freeman won game MVP awards.

And coach Alex Vanichuk (Langley 1) won the Blue Division Fair Play Coach Award.

Langley’s Trish Keizer also received the BCLA Volunteer Award.
