About: Monique Tamminga
Monique Tamminga is a crime and courts reporter with the Langley Times. She also covers education and human interest stories. With more than 12 years in journalism, Monique is passionate about investigating injustices in the community and is willing to dig to get to the heart of the matter. Monique has received several awards for her investigative journalism, opinion pieces and hard news stories. She is the recipient of the The Canadian Community Newspapers Association's excellence award for outstanding reporter initiative in 2009 for her work on uncovering a pet store selling dying and sick puppies to customers. The articles forced the store to close down. She also received a CCNA award for best investigative journalism for uncovering a childhood cancer cluster that prompted a health investigation. She has also won awards for her writing on the tragic hit-and-run death of 13-year-old Langley girl Carley Regan and other awards.
