Aldergrove shows big support for Food Bank

Aldergrove Legion Branch 265 provided the venue and the live music of Sweet Max

Aldergrove Legion Branch 265 provided the venue and the live music of Sweet Max band on the weekend of August 26 and 27, to support a great local fundraising effort to help fill the cupboards of the Langley/Aldergrove Food Bank.

Many Legion members and guests were very generous with their donations of cash and non-perishable items.

Iain Mair, executive director of Langley/Aldergrove Food Bank and his wife Bonnie were in attendance during the fundraiser and expressed their thanks to Aldergrove Legion and the local community for their support.

The Langley/Aldergrove Food Bank currently gives aid to 380 registered recipients, temporarily in need in Langley and Aldergrove. The Food Bank provides food for meals for two days per week.

The Otter Co-op was also present in support of the Food Bank fundraiser. It was represented by Sean Weatherly, Otter Co-op’s marketing co-ordinator, who spoke of the Co-op’s programs in conjunction with Food Bank programs.

Aldergrove Legion is one of 1,400 Royal Canadian Legions located in communities all across the country. The Legion is a non-profit organization with 275,000 volunteer members, whose mission is to serve veterans, which includes serving military and RCMP members and their families, to promote remembrance and serve their communities and our country. You do not have to be a veteran to join the Legion.

Family community events at Aldergrove Legion are held on Canada Day, B.C. Day and Labour Day. Look for Aldergrove Legion volunteers at the annual Aldergrove Fair Days, the “Langley Cruise In” on September 9 and many other local community events.
