A Langley woman wants to bring the community closer together — and what better way to do that than share a meal together.
Stacey Wakelin is organizing Dinner: Let’s Celebrate Langley, welcoming everyone to sit down to a nourishing meal with a ‘wonderfully’ diverse group of people on Friday, Dec. 8, at Langley Vineyard Church from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
“This dinner is a chance to find out more about all we have in common, rather than what separates us,” said Wakelin.
“As we sit beside other members of our community — perhaps people we would never meet — and share a meal, we are strengthening the core of our community.”
The set meal includes dinner, dessert, coffee and juice catered by Sto:Lo Catering.
Wakelin is the founder of the Facebook page Langley Parents for Inclusivity and has organized several information sessions regarding inclusive education and SOGI curriculum.
She also organized a rally outside the Langley school board office in support of LGBTQ students.
With it being Christmastime, Wakelin thought it would be nice to break bread with members of the community, make new friends and connections.
She’s hoping for a good turnout, but also for people to look around them and see if there is anyone they know of who could benefit from this meal.
She’s hoping people will buy a ticket for any neighbours who are lonely, struggling to make ends meet or are new to the area.
While the dinner is being held at Friends Langley Vineyard, however, this is not a church organized or faith-based event.
“We are very grateful to Friends Langley Vineyard for allowing us to use their space for our event,” she added.
If you would like to be part of Let’s Celebrate Langley, tickets are $10.
