Langley’s 60-plus Lifestyle Expo highlighted by fun, fashion and fitness

Free, June 9 event attracted 250 people

Roughly 250 people took in Langley’s 60-Plus Lifestyle Expo last Friday.

The June 9 expo at the Langley Coast Hotel and Convention Centre, which was free to attend and included CKNW Radio Host Maureen McGrath, included lots of prizes and refreshments, and a fashion show sponsored by the Langley Senior Resource Society.

Kim Galick of Ears Hearing Clinic hosted and sponsored the event, along with additional sponsorship from the Langley Times and Bria Communities.

Times columnist Jim McGregor returned as emcee.

“He was funny as always,” Galick said.

She noted, “Marion Brand, from Brand Fitness, got everyone off their feet and re-energized after lunch and to get them prepared for the last presentation of the day.

“The Langley Senior Resource Society put on a fun fashion show, and our keynote speaker, Maureen McGrath, had a fun and entertaining presentation.”

For the the third year, Langley naturopathic physician Erin Rurak was among the guest speakers.

“My goal every time I go there, is to be able to provide research-based evidence for things that can be done easily in the home for patients who are 50 years and above, that have shown to be a benefit for health,” Rurak said.

“As a naturopath, I can’t see everybody because what I do is not covered by MSP (medical services plan), so if there’s ever that opportunity that I can do a public event… I can pass on my knowledge.”
