1 – What is the most important issue facing the Township, and how would you propose to deal with it?
I think laying the community plans that will lead us into the next 30 years. I think transportation, planning for schools, infrastructure are all part of the planning process and each one of these issues is very significant on its own. Working with our partners such as the school board, the neighboring communities, Metro Vancouver and the two other levels of government and our citizens is all part of the relationships we have to continue to develop and maintain so that we can develop these plans and execute on them to solve the hard issues that need to be solved.
2 – Should there be restrictions on development in Willoughby until the situation regarding funding for new schools has been resolved?
I don’t think you can stop development until the schools are resolved, as that is not how the school system works. We need to manage growth and work with the school board and provincial government to develop the business plans to fund the schools we need. Working together will achieve the results we need.
3 – Do you support a pool and recreation centre complex in Aldergrove, and if so, when should construction begin? If not, why not?
Yes I do. There is a lot of work to do to find the appropriate monies to pay for this complex, but work is being done on the scope of the project and there is a lot more work to be done before a shovel can go in the ground.
4- What type of development, if any, should be encouraged in a new community plan for Brookswood and Fernridge?
Langley is a community that is working toward housing and businesses that meet all our citizens’ needs. I feel there needs to be some densification along the 200 Street corridor and surrounding properties to allow for housing for our young people and our seniors. Not everyone can afford or wants a single family home on a large lot. We also need some smaller lots with single family lots to allow others that option. To make a complete community, we also need retail and small business to complement the housing, to make it a more walkable community and to support the needs of the residents.
