Large chop shop discovered

Abby Police didn't locate a wanted man, they discovered a property full of stolen vehicles instead

Dean Sykes, 48, has a warrant out of Langley and Canada-wide. While Abbotsford Police were looking for him, they happened upon a large chop shop.

Abbotsford Police may not have found the man they were trying to arrest, but they did discover a property full of stolen vehicles, including a Ford F-350 pick up truck from Langley.

On Sunday, Feb. 12, at 9:30 a.m., Abbotsford Police officers went to a property in the 27600 block of Downes Road in an attempt to locate a 48-year-old man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for parole revocation.

Dean Andrew Douglas Sykes was also wanted for warrants out of Vancouver. APD officers didn’t locate Sykes on the property but they did find numerous vehicles along with a boat, a trailer and a Bobcat.

Many of the vehicles were either gutted or dismantled including a stolen white Ford pickup truck from Surrey, a black Ford F-350 from Langley and a red Ford F-250 from Abbotsford.  The trailer was confirmed stolen from Delta and the Bobcat with a punched ignition and other likely stolen property was seized for further investigation.

In total it was estimated that more than $100,000 in property was recovered.

Police continue to search for Sykes in connection to his outstanding warrants.

Sykes is a balding, Caucasian man who stands 6’1” tall and weighs 210 pounds with brown eyes.

Anyone with information about this investigation or his whereabouts should contact the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225, text them at 222973 (abbypd) or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
