Lego thief now behind bars for drug dealing out of a north Langley home

Among the drugs being sold were fentanyl tablets and Viagra

A 32-year-old Langley man previously convicted for stealing thousands of dollars worth of Lego sets has been sentenced to jail for selling drugs out of a north Langley home in 2015.

Henry Bennett Smith was in Surrey Provincial Court on Oct. 31, where a judge sentenced him to 30 months behind bars for trafficking fentanyl, meth, heroin and other drugs out of a north Langley home in 2015.

Smith was sentenced on one count of trafficking drugs and multiple counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. He was also sentenced to six months jail and a 10-year firearms ban for possession of unauthorized firearms and careless use and storage of a firearm in connection to the 2015 arrest.

His co-accused, Ryaen Clarke, 36, of Surrey, was also in court for sentencing and received 75 days in jail and a 10-year firearms ban for one count of trafficking in a controlled substance.

Last year, Smith was given a conditional sentence and credit for pre-trial custody after being busted with thousands of dollars worth of Lego sets that had been stolen from various toy stores.

More than 50 large plastic containers filled with stolen toys were seized from a storage locker Smith was renting and from a Langley City apartment where he was staying.

In the most recent sentencing for drug dealing, Smith was arrested and charged after a ‘lengthy’ investigation by Langley RCMP into drug trafficking from that north Langley rental home.

Langley RCMP Drug Section working in collaboration with all the Langley plainclothes units gathered enough information to obtain a search warrant for the residence, said police at the time of Smith’s arrest

The warrant was executed on Aug. 12, 2015 with the assistance of the Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Services.

During the raid, police seized over 70 grams of methamphetamine, more than 70 fentanyl tablets, oxycodone tables, Viagra, over 10 grams of heroin and over 700 grams of marijuana. In addition to the drugs, police also seized three assault rifles with high-capacity magazines, ammunition, more than $1,000 in cash and a significant amount of trafficking paraphernalia.
