Crews work to restore power in Maple Ridge.

UPDATE: Lights out for 3,000 customers in Lower Mainland

Port Mann bridge reopens, school closures and dangerous driving conditions continue across the region

More than 3,000 BC Hydro customers were without power across the Lower Mainland and Sunshine Coast as of Friday afternoon. That number is down from a high of 32,000 on Thursday.

Hydro is reporting outages in Surrey, Langley, Abbotsford, Mission, Burnaby, Chilliwack, Powell River, Sechelt and Vancouver.

See the outages map here.

A heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Metro Vancouver while a winter storm warning continues for the Fraser Valley. Drivers are being asked to avoid Highway 1 between Langley and Hope unless absolutely necessary.

The Port Mann Bridge is now open after it was closed westbound earlier in the morning as crews cleared ice from the cable collars.

Storms earlier this winter caused ice and snow to fall off the cables and damage cars on both the Port Mann and Alex Fraser bridges.

Schools across the Lower Mainland remain closed today as dangerous driving conditions have made a mess of roads in both Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. See list of school closures below:
