Clare Benedict McCormick
February 10, 1930-December 10, 2008
Our precious husband and father was taken away much too soon. He was a wonderful person and many people looked up to him as a role model. He is survived by his loving wife, Aileen, cherished daughters, Janice (Gary) and Gwenn (David), grandsons Lucas and Jordan, his sisters, Terry, Anne (Dick), Clara, Rita (Herold) Agnes (Ross), brothers Frank and Wayne (Doreen) and many nieces and nephews.
He was born in Wapella, Saskatchewan. During the war he joined the service as a boy soldier at age 14. After the war, he re-enlisted on December 13, 1948 in the Artillery and was stationed in Shilo, Manitoba, Gagetown, N.B. and Germany. He retired in April 1971 with the rank of Warrant Officer. Clare was a meticulous soldier; he was also a master of all trades. Cars and all electrics were kept in good running order and all knives were sharply honed. Aileen and Clare spent their retirement years traveling throughout North America and Europe, including several cruises with family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Prayers will be held at St. Joseph’s Parish, 20680 Fraser Highway, Langley on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at 5 p.m., and the funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a luncheon in the church hall. The family requests no flowers. Online tributes can be left at www.mem.com
