Aldergrove duo batting for Canada Cup

Jayden Knight and Jake Kristensen of Aldergrove are playing on the BC Select 17U team at the Canada Cup in August.

Two young Aldergrove baseball players, Jake Kristensen and Jayden Knight, have been named to the BC Selects 17U Team.

They will play in the Canada Cup in Fort McMurray from August 3-8.

Since 1989, the Baseball Canada Cup has attracted some of the best baseball talent from across the country. Canadian ball players have enjoyed experiences that will last a lifetime and Canadian cities have displayed their world class hosting talents year after year.

The 2016 Baseball Canada Cup will see ten teams of under-17 baseball players, one from each province, visit Fort McMurray to participate in the event. The national tournament serves to assist in the selection of Junior National Team players for future training camps and the National Team for the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup, as well as providing an opportunity for scouts to evaluate future potential college and professional baseball draft picks.

Both Jake and Jayden played for many years with the Aldergrove Minor Baseball Association. They were both a big part of the Bantam AA Provincial Championship team that went on to play in the Westerns in Swift Current in 2014.

The boys both decided to move forward with their baseball endeavours and have played with the Langley Blaze’s Junior 16U and Premier 18U teams over the last two years.

Jake is a catcher and Jayden plays outfield.

Other local players on the team include outfielder Brett Bass of Abbotsford, second/third baseman Rhys Cratty of Langley, and pitcher/first baseman Cade Smith of Abbotsford.

Another Aldergrove player, Terrell Rogers, is an alternate on the team.

The 2016 Baseball Canada Cup Organizing Committee is a partnership between the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC) and the Fort McMurray Minor Baseball Association (FMMBA).
